I’ve been a full-time Scottish wedding and elopement photographer for over a decade, travelling up and down the country and a little beyond. I use analogue film cameras (35mm and medium format) along with digital. We’re after fun, relaxed, authentic and stylish images full of joyful candid moments. I’m based in Edinburgh where I also help couples to design local elopements and small-scale weddings using all the best local independent creatives and small brands (the elopement society but sssh, it’s a secret, visit the Elopement Enthusiast section of my website for the lowdown).
I love collaborating with creative couples and most of my clients tend to be camera shy, a bit awkward, looking for a stress-free experience while being centre stage. I’m very much happier behind the camera than in front (the faces I pull, ooooft) so I get it and do my best to put you at ease and to creep around in the background being as unobtrusive as possible for most of the day.
I’m one of the many late diagnosed neurodivergent folks of my generation realising we’re creative and a bit messy for a reason! Photography has always been a way to be present, to quiet my scattered brains and hyperfocus on the ebb and flow of the day, the patterns of light and the shared emotions.
When I’m not shooting weddings or portraits with local brands, I’m working on collaborative art projects which I’m trying to build time for. I love creative play, I think it’s as important as our connections to each other. And with each new exhibition, commission or collaborative project I feel I’m learning more which informs my commercial photography work too. Getting in the darkroom (cupboard!), music on, counting the exposure is quiet bliss.
My advice for engaged couples planning their big/small days – forget traditions that don’t suit you, let’s create something that feels personal and authentic to you, that tells your story. No cringe posing, just your natural connection captured to keep safe. I won’t steal you away from guests for hours, it’s a day to celebrate with them and to grab lots of lovely photos of them having fun times too.
I photograph what happens – an artistic candid documentary of what your celebrations really felt like. All the joy and emotions, the quiet wee moments, the drunken unlikely new pals. Letting go of perfection and prioritising fun. Beachy tones and strong black and white edits. Intimate, stylish and delicious memories capturing the flow and vibes of the day.
