Solen Photography create modern, natural, relaxed wedding and elopement photography for creative couples across Scotland.

Artist | Photographer | Elopement Enthusiast

I’ve been a full-time Scottish wedding and elopement photographer for over a decade, travelling up and down the country and a little beyond. I use analogue film cameras (35mm and medium format) along with digital. We’re after fun, relaxed, authentic and stylish images full of joyful candid moments. I’m based in Edinburgh where I also help couples to design local elopements and small-scale weddings using all the best local independent creatives and small brands (the elopement society but sssh, it’s a secret, visit the Elopement Enthusiast section of my website for the lowdown).

I love collaborating with creative couples and most of my clients tend to be camera shy, a bit awkward, looking for a stress-free experience while being centre stage. I’m very much happier behind the camera than in front (the faces I pull, ooooft) so I get it and do my best to put you at ease and to creep around in the background being as unobtrusive as possible for most of the day.

I’m one of the many late diagnosed neurodivergent folks of my generation realising we’re creative and a bit messy for a reason! Photography has always been a way to be present, to quiet my scattered brains and hyperfocus on the ebb and flow of the day, the patterns of light and the shared emotions.

When I’m not shooting weddings or portraits with local brands, I’m working on collaborative art projects which I’m trying to build time for. I love creative play, I think it’s as important as our connections to each other. And with each new exhibition, commission or collaborative project I feel I’m learning more which informs my commercial photography work too. Getting in the darkroom (cupboard!), music on, counting the exposure is quiet bliss.

My advice for engaged couples planning their big/small days – forget traditions that don’t suit you, let’s create something that feels personal and authentic to you, that tells your story. No cringe posing, just your natural connection captured to keep safe. I won’t steal you away from guests for hours, it’s a day to celebrate with them and to grab lots of lovely photos of them having fun times too.

I photograph what happens – an artistic candid documentary of what your celebrations really felt like. All the joy and emotions, the quiet wee moments, the drunken unlikely new pals. Letting go of perfection and prioritising fun. Beachy tones and strong black and white edits. Intimate, stylish and delicious memories capturing the flow and vibes of the day.

Music to your ears? Give me a holler and let’s have a chat over your plans x

Customer Reviews

“I discovered Solen through my job, and I’ve known for years that I wanted her to be our wedding photographer because of how much I loved her work. Solen was such a joy to have on our team throughout the whole process. She has a really helpful online questionnaire, which is mainly for her to understand what you want of course, but we actually found it really useful as a framework for figuring out what we needed to consider too. Not knowing what’s expected is one of the biggest frustrations of wedding planning but Solen was always ready with answers. She was also a master at helping two introverts get excited for a day of being centre stage, including a wander around post-ceremony. We ended up needing to cut it down to just a few moments outside due to rain, but it gave us so much confidence to enjoy the day and be in the moment. We had so many comments from friends and family about how wonderful Solen was, and witnessed ourselves her ability to bring a smile to our faces. And the photos themselves – we really can’t express just how impressed we are with them. We knew we would love every one, but the sheer happiness we get from looking through them is on a level we weren’t prepared for. Our couples’ photos are so full of laughter and love and transport us right back to the moment. Trying to decide which ones to have framed is a lovely problem to have. But it’s the ones of our friends and family that we can’t get over. Solen caught the spirit of the day and everyone involved so faithfully and we will treasure that forever. It’s been a month since we got married, and we can’t wait to share them! Thank you so much Solen for being part of our day and giving us the most incredible photographs to remember it by.”

“Solen joined us for our wedding in Braemar and captured the beauty and love of this day perfectly. I loved her style when I initially looked for a photographer for our wedding and was hoping she would be able to capture some wonderful memories for us and our guests. The photos we got were everything I hoped for. Our snaps and the photos from our guests are absolutely beautiful. You can feel the love radiating from all of them. I am so thankful that she was with us on this amazing day and helped us conserve these memories.”

“Solen was recommended by a photographer friend for our wedding and we are so pleased we chose her! Our photos turned out beautifully, she was such a calming and fun presence on the day, and her pre wedding shoot was a huge help for my camera shy husband. Great value for a huge talent, thank you so much Solen!”

“Solen captured our wedding in Perthshire and we would highly recommend booking Solen for your big day. We’re not particularly confident in front of the camera and one of the things that we liked most about Solen was how at ease she made us feel. It honestly felt like meeting an old friend and she really got to know us, our guests and our story, to truly capture the emotion behind our day. The communication was also fantastic right from the start and she took direction about some of the shots we wanted. Solen’s fun, candid and unique style meant she worked seamlessly alongside our videographer and was able to capture the most wonderful moments from our day which we will cherish forever. The photos came back promptly and we were so delighted with the final product and the moments she caught. We will look at these pictures for years to come and can never thank Solen enough for the service she provided. To all couples planning your wedding…look nowhere else as Solen is your gal!”
