Amy and Tom, both Doctors, tied the knot on 21st June 2025 in Newcastle upon Tyne. They both wanted a wedding stripped of many of the usual wedding traditions with a focus on fun and laid-back party vibes.
Instead of going down the traditional bridal boutique and bridal gown route, Amy wore a beautiful midi-dress by fashion brand Aje, who she was already familiar with having rented Aje dresses previously.
The couple exchanged vows written the night before in an intimate ceremony at the Civic Centre with close family and friends, before driving themselves to their reception venue, Tyne Bank Brewery, where they celebrated with a larger gathering of loved ones.
We’re delighted to share the work of Emily at Silverbird photography for the first time too – enjoy!

The Dress
Aje
I actually didn’t go to any bridal dress shops and just ordered mine online. I would recommend this as it was low stress.
When I need an occasion dress I usually rent one; I had rented several dresses from Aje before so knew what size fitted me and knew that I loved all their dresses. So as soon as I saw this one on the website I know it would be perfect (I’m also quite a decisive person).

I particularly loved that it was linen/cotton blend, off the shoulder with poofy sleeves and it had pockets. It was probably the first thing I sorted out for the wedding. I ordered it and it fit perfectly so I didn’t even need to alter it. So I tried on 0 dresses in the end! I loved my dress.
I did wear a veil. I wasn’t sure I would so didn’t want to spend a lot of money on one. I bought mine second hand off Vinted for £35. It was by the brand Britten. It was a floor length veil which really completed the outfit.

I wore gold heels from Air & Grace and I had some little gold and pearl hair accessories that I bought in Japan earlier a few months before. I also wore simple gold jewellery from Monica Vinader and actually so did Tom but he wears those (earring and necklace) every day anyway.
I did my own hair (my sister helped) and my makeup artist was Makeup by Collette.

My bouquet was very kindly made by our amazing friend Roisin of Verde Flower Co, who was given very little brief aside from ‘natural and local’. My mum actually helped me to dry these afterwards so they’re still sat in our living room looking gorgeous.

The Ceremony
We got married in Newcastle, where we live. We chose to have our wedding in the city we live in as we knew people would have to travel anyway (both our families don’t live in Newcastle) so decided they might as well travel to us. And it’s the city we met and fell in love in so it’s very special to us as well as being our home. We got married at the Civic Centre (registry office) with 50 of our closest family and friends, before having a big party later that day at Tyne Bank Brewery with around 150 people.
We had a non-religious ceremony at the registry office. We walked down the aisle together to the sounds of Real Love Baby by Father John Misty.
We didn’t have any other ceremonies however we did have a lot of people round to our house the day before and the day after the wedding which was lovely, particularly since many of them had travelled quite far (Tom’s from Cornwall and Amy’s brought up in Brussels so lots of people had travelled).

We wrote our own vows, we did write them the night before, we were not organised! Both written on our phones, but we did both end up crying during the vow bits so we can’t have done that badly.
We also had two readings; one by Tom’s brother who read an extract from the Amber Spyglass, I Will Love You Forever, as we both loved that book as children.

My dad also shared a reading of Ithaca, a poem by C P Cavafy which he chose and re-translated himself from the original greek (he’s half greek) which was very touching.
We both had one ring each which doubled as our engagement rings, both made by Dytham Jewellery. We designed these together which was very fun.

Photography
Our photographer was Emily Carey at Silverbird photography. Emily was wonderful! We picked her as we loved her photography style, not overly posed and really natural and beautiful shots.
Emily really delivered – we absolutely love our photos and she’s a lovely person who knows how to put people at ease.

The Reception
We drove ourselves to and from the venue in our own red Ford Fiesta.
The Imaginarium Balloon Studio provided giant tasselled streamers that really made the venue look amazing.

I designed our welcome board on Canva. We didn’t have any other wedding stationery, we used with joy.com for the invites
Aside from my bouquet, the only other flowers we had were bud vases which my mum helped us to do the day before after spending about 25 pounds on flowers from Sainsbury’s and bud vases from facebook marketplace.
We didn’t have a wedding cake.

Evening & Dancing
We chose ‘At Last’ by Etta May to dance to – this was a very last minute choice inspired by the fact that we’d been together over eight years by the time we got married. We didn’t practise or prepare any dance but our swaying around the dance floor was apparently good enough to make my (Amy’s) sister cry.
No, we loved our day and were really happy with how it turned out.
Words of Wedded Wisdom
Don’t let other peoples expectations of what a wedding should be affect your judgement and planning of the day.
There will always be someone who doesn’t agree with your choices so you should just do what makes you happy, its your wedding after all!
